Let’s talk about that time. That time they did the Half-Time. That Super-bowl Half time everyone is talking about.
Like it or not.
The very people we need to persuade to pay attention to and take action against the issues such as children in cages and ropes around women, are the very men we are seducing with the objectifying of women. Yet again. They got their cake and are eating it too. Ain’t no “powerful man” going “wow. The way Shakira moved here hips and JLo worked that pole, makes me wanna help those kids they had in those cages!”).
These men in powerful positions won’t be paying attention to the subtle messages such as cages and ropes or a Puerto Rican flag.
They see the curves and hips and seducing moves. They were entertained and very likely nothing changed.
But they sure gave the masses something new to talk about.
You cannot promote morality and justice by using immorality. You can’t promote faithfulness via unfaithfulness. You can’t promote respect by taking your clothes off for the world to see.
You can’t expect people to look in your eyes and hear your message, if you’ve made such an effort to shake the rest of your body in their face.
You can’t tempt someone into doing what’s right.
One evil does not justify another.
Shirtless Adam Levin (previous half time show) wasn’t ok. Seductive Shakira and JLo isn’t ok. Kids in cages isn’t ok. People dancing beneath JLo on the pole, in a way that looks like they’re partaking in one large orgy, isn’t ok. Women being objectified and trafficked isn’t ok.
Women throwing shade isn’t ok.
But this half time show is nothing new. Why are we surprised? German commercials are one example. It’s off the chain (in a bad way!)
The world will do as they please.
As Jesus followers, we need to be more shock proof & more prayer-full.
Isn’t it possible to have an amazing, creative show that also speaks against injustice? Without creating more! But again, the world will do as they please.
Nothing seems sacred anymore. There is no fear of God.
Also, speaking up against what is wrong, doesn’t mean tearing down other women for that matter.
The world doesn’t know what love is.
Love is not saying everything goes. Love does not accept everything.
Love does say no and discipline when necessary.
Speaking up against a behavior doesn’t mean condemning the person.
That the world doesn’t understand this shouldn’t be a surprise.
But if we as those who want to follow Jesus can’t see that....
Too much of what is wrong is being excused and argued about or even justified. And the enemy gets what he wants. More confusion. More division. More distraction.
And even Christians being rocked to sleep. Downplaying evil. Trying to take sin with a grain of salt. It doesn’t work that way. Believe me. I was dead in my sins. A bunch of hypocrisy and emptiness. Sin leads to death!
Many arguing, even though that half time show most likely did NOTHING to actually help those kids in cages and those peoples being trafficked. It just led to more debates.
Something the media is probably soaking up, because it means more $ for them.
Our spiritual enemy has already been defeated, but like a lion be still roars trying to kill, steal and destroy. We don’t fight against flesh and blood.
All the immorality in the world is nothing new.
Jesus told us there would be trouble. But guess who overcame the world? He did! Jesus did!
I don’t share this to rant (even though I initially wanted to (this morning I was nearly calling er’body a dingus)) nor to start a debate.
Yesterday and again today I was reminded: Jesus told us to go and make disciples and baptize them. Make disciples! Not debate. Not argue someone into knowing Christ.
In order to disciple you’ve got to have someone who is willing to be discipled. To teach you need someone willing to be taught.
And we too must remain teachable.
And if we are going to be outraged, then may it fuel into prayer, intercession, and fighting for those children in cages, against human trafficking and so on.
We need to stay alert and sober minded. We need to stay close to the Shepherd. He is coming soon! It’s about that time!
To those who have ears, let them hear.
In His Love,
R.A.E.
